Distribution: Endemic to China - but the whole of the population can be found in 8 fragmented populations.

Habitat: Known only from breeding locations, usually in tall trees surrounding old, traditional villages adjacent to rivers.

Diet: Omnivorous - fruit, seeds and insects.

Breeding: Nest in tall trees if available or leafy shrubs - between 5 and 15ft from the ground. Nest is constructed from dry grasses and is cup shaped. Both sexes take part in nest building and incubation. Assistance in feeding chicks by subordinate birds within the colony observed in the wild.

Clutch size: 2-4 white eggs.

Incubation: Approx 13 days.

Rearing: Chicks hatch naked and eyes closed. Both parents brood & feed the chicks (predominantly on insects).

Fledge age: 14 days.

Maturity: 1 year.
