Distribution: Central and Eastern South America.

Habitat: The only non-forest toucan. Riverine and coastal edges of forest, palm groves in savannas, wooded islands, scrub, plantations and orchards.

Diet: Friuts, insects, nestling birds and eggs.

Breeding: Nest in hollow palms, in banks of streams and termite moulds.

Clutch size: 2-4 eggs.

Incubation: 17-18 days. (By both parents).

Rearing: The young are fed by both sexes.

Fledge age: 43-52 days.

Warning points
Biggest risk to hand-feeding toco chicks is dehydration - Fruits should have a high moisture content and the pellet should be soaked, though it should maintain its shape and not until it falls apart.
